President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday chaired National Security Council meeting that was attended by the five Vice Presidents and senior government officials to discuss the crisis in Sudan and the recent border clashes between the organized forces in Western Equatoria State and some elements along the border of Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa Republic.
In his remarks, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the Council meeting called for immediate cessation of hostilities and urged the warring parties in Sudan to build on the ceasefire as well as open humanitarian corridor to allow civilians access humanitarian assistance.
Dr. Marial said the government further appealed to the humanitarian agencies to assist those affected by the crisis in Sudan and also directed its Embassy in Khartoum to remain open and continue to discharge its duties during this time of crisis to maintain relations between the two countries.
Finally, the Minister mentioned they resolved to form a committee comprising of Chief of Defence Forces, Inspector of Police and other high-ranking officers to investigate the recent border clashes between the organized forces deployed in Western Equatoria State and some elements along the border of Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa Republic
