The hackers who identify themselves as “Anonymous South Sudan” said the cyber-attack is aimed at exposing “grand corruption” and provide pressure against the central bank on foreign currency exchange rate.
The bank last updated its daily exchange rate on Thursday afternoon in which it indicated that $1 is traded at SSP840.
The website was hacked on Sunday and the attackers have threatened to maintain their grip on it until the government slashes the exchange rate by half.
“The Bank of South Sudan website will be down from today at 12:00 a.m. (Sunday) this night; the attack will continue until 100 dollars become 40,000,” the hackers said.
