Rome- Italy Thursday, March 23, 2023 -The Community of Saint Egidio, which is mediating the Rome Initiative for peace in South Sudan, issued a statement on Thursday in Rome announcing the adjournment of the peace talks between the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) and the South Sudan Non-Signatories Opposition Groups (SSNOP).
This came up following a lack of consensus between the two sides to adopt the proposed agenda.
The head of the government delegation, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, told the media that the talks were cordial and that the government remains fully committed to the Rome Initiative for Peace and underscored that the adjournment would allow parties to consult further on the agenda for the next round of talks slated for May.
