The Rome Initiative for Peace has today resumed mediation efforts geared at negotiating a peace deal between the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity and the non-signatories to R-ARCSS, also known as the hold-out groups.
In his statement, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who heads the government delegation, said the talks started well with hopes of resuming where they left off.
Dr. Barnaba said the government is fully committed to the Rome peace talks and stressed the need to pick up where the talks were last halted in order to move the country forward.
The government delegation was composed of representatives of parties to the agreement, while the reunited South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance (SSOMA) was represented by Thomas Cirilo, Paul Malong, Pagan Amum, Emmanuel Ajawin, and their associates.
The agenda for this round of peace talks will be presented by the mediation team from the Community of Saint Egidio to both parties to set the commencement of the talks.
