Kator court in Juba County on Tuesday started the trial of a Ugandan woman allegedly caught smuggling 700 grams of cocaine.
Josephine Mbabazi, 28, was arrested at Juba International Airport by the Anti-drug Criminal Investigation Department in August last year.
Mbabazi was en route to Ethiopia via Juba when she was caught hiding the drugs in her pants and the bra.
During yesterday’s court hearing, she appeared to have confessed to the crime, saying she expected to be paid 2,500 US dollars after delivering the drugs.
However, the presiding Judge Mujahid Abdullah Akon adjourned the court session to the 6th of March for the court to cross-exam the accused.
“The accused woman is a Uganda national called Mbazazi Josephine, she was arrested at Juba airport on date 8th August 2022, she was carrying a number of suspected drugs,” said Judge Mujahid Abdullah Akon.h
“The test turned out to be Heroin based on a criminal laboratory in Khartoum, after the investigation, the Charges were brought against her by the Public Prosecution, and she was referred to court.”
Last month, the high court in Juba resumed a court session of a 25 years old Nigerian national accused of smuggling 26 kilograms of heroin from Brazil to Juba.
