The Ruweng community has offered to mediate a conflict between two sisterly communities, Twic Mayardit and Abyei, in an effort to restore lasting peace and order in the region.
“Considering the historical and blood ties between the Ruweng people and the people of Twij Mayardid, and between the people of RAA and the people of Abyei Administrative Area, we, the Ruweng people, are utterly heartbroken by the ongoing vicious conflict between our sisterly communities of Twij and Abyei, and are, hence, of the view that we can intervene as a force for good in an effort to mediate and bring about a lasting reconciliation between the people of Twij Mayardid and Abyei in order to restoring lasting peace and order in the region,” statement by Ruweng community reads.
The conflict has intensified in recent weeks following reports of armed groups being deployed by the Abyei administration to carry out surveys, despite protests calling for a suspension of the activities. The Ruweng community shares borders with Abyei and Warrap State.
In a statement from the Ruweng community, they expressed their view that they can intervene as a force for good to bring about lasting reconciliation between Twij Mayardid and Abyei. The ultimate goal of their intervention is to restore lasting peace and order in the region.
