JUBA, FEBRUARY 2nd 2023 (Thejubamirror ) – South Sudan opposition leader, Peter Mayen Majongdit, has threatened to pull out of the 2018 peace agreement if President Salva Kiir Mayardit continues to violate the pact.
Mayen, Chairman of Umbrella Political Parties (UPP) and leader of Other Political Parties (OPP) accused its partner in the government of the national unity, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) of violating the peace deal.
“This continuing violation of the SPLM shall never be allowed to continue. Therefore, it is worth noting that we the members of Umbrella of Political Parties (UOPP) shall possibly withdraw from the roadmap and agreement unless all grievances are addressed,” Mayen said in a statement seen by Sudans Post on Thursday.
Mayen said the violations could fringe the implementation of the agreement.
“The leadership Umbrella Political Parties (UOPP) would like to inform the general public and media houses of serious violations of the SPLM on the implementation process of the peace agreement,” said Mayen.
“This is a government by agreement and no party should subordinate or violate the rights of other parties as per responsibility sharing in the agreement.”
Mayen who is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement under the Other Political Parties called on IGAD and peace monitors to intervene in addressing grievances.
“We are calling on the IGAD Head of State and Government, the IGAD Council of Ministers, RJMEC, and IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan to immediately and quickly address the OPP grievance and frequent violation of the SPLM on the implementation process of the peace agreement.”
