The Toposa community in Kapoeta East County of Eastern Equatoria State held a peaceful demonstration yesterday against recent remarks made by the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kindiki Kithure, and the Governor of Turkana County.
The demonstration was in response to allegations of encroachment by Kenya into South Sudanese territory and the laying of a claim to Nakodo, a village located 10km from Narus, Kapoeta East County headquarters.
The peaceful demonstration, attended by hundreds of members of the community, was an expression of the community’s opposition to these developments and a call for the protection of their territorial integrity.
“We will not stand idly by while our land is being taken,” said a spokesperson for the demonstration. “We demand that the South Sudanese government take immediate action to safeguard our borders and defend our sovereignty.”
