Four suspected robbers have been shot dead near the bank of South Sudan (BoSS) headquarters in Juba, Friday evening.
The incident happened at around 5.27 pm, near the entrance to the Central Bank.
“The incident occurred outside of the Bank and was quelled by the security forces. The situation is now calm,” BoSS confirmed the incident in a brief statement.
Eyewitness accounts say that about five men who were armed with guns attempted to forcefully make their inside the bank but were repelled by security who were manning the premise and nearby buildings.
“I am now on my way to the Central Bank to find out more about the incident,” Justin Daniel, the police spokesperson told City Review via phone.
The place has since been cordoned off.
There have been rising cases of robbery incidences in the city this festive season.
This week, two employees of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) were robbed at gunpoint.
The two employees had just withdrawn cash from a local bank before they were trailed by the thugs only to shoot twice, at the gate before escaping with the cash.
