A student who allegedly contacted the daughter of the Army chief was detained for two days.
Lorna Naula, a student at Kyambogo University in Uganda was arrested by plain cloth police as she approached her hostel only to be detained for contacting her former classmate, who happened to be the daughter of Gen Wilson Mbadi, the boss of Uganda Police Defence Forces – UPDF.
Naula, 21, made numerous calls to the draught of the army chief in an attempt to help her brother, who is in jail, secure bail.
But the suspicious Mbadi family, perhaps oblivious of the existence of the caller, thought that Naula was a kidnapper masquerading as a person in need of help.
The general later sent officers to track and arrest the caller.
“They [police] called her claiming they had a parcel to deliver to her,” a source was quoted by Monitor.
Naula’s brother, Jonathan Muhumuza, was arrested in September for alleged unlawful possession of military stores, the publication added.
Muhumuza reportedly worked with the military on contract.
“She made a statement on Monday, but the reason they delayed releasing her was that he (Gen Mbadi) wanted to see her physically, but he is a busy man, so he failed to get time. They said he will see her when he gets time,” the source said.
