Police are on hot pursuit of suspected robbers who stole about three million pounds in a daring daylight robbery, in Juba, on Tuesday.
The robbers accosted two employees of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan –AMDISS, and took away cash of different denominations.
According to Aya Irene, AMDISS Acting Director, the miscreants took away $4,147 and an additional SSP 520, 000, from the terrified staff.
The money was to facilitate the association’s training activities.
The association said Tuesday, December 13 the chilling incident left one of their employee with minor injuries.
The robbers allegedly trailed the two staff, an assistant finance officer, who was in the company of the assigned driver, from the bank to the gate, only to rob them at gunpoint.
“We heard two gunshots at the gate,” Aya told City Review Digital.
ADMISS offices are located at Hai-Tijaria in Juba.
“The driver was still waiting for our security officer to open the gate when their [thugs’] car approached them, only to start shooting to scare away our security guy.
“He (security) did not have a gun, so they just shot twice to scare him away,” added Aya who spoke to City Review Digital via phone from a police station where they were recording a statement.
A manhunt has been launched as security apparatus tries to close down on the thugs.
The association added: “This afternoon, armed robbers shot at our car and got away with the money. The robbers followed our car up to our gate when it was returning from the bank and shot at the car twice,” ADMISS said in a statement.
“Two of our staff were inside the car. One staff got minor injuries,” added the statement.
According to eyewitnesses, the masked robbers were in a tinted land cruiser armed with guns and other assorted weapons.
The incident happened around 12 noon, according to Aya.
