JUBA – At least four members of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit have announced their intentions to resign, accusing the party’s leadership of subjecting the world’s youngest country into suffering and deviating from the vision of the party when it was created.
In a statement, Moses Bornyi, William Gabriel, Gideon Adali and Abiel Kon, all of whom senior members of the group in Canada, said the SPLM party do not represent the values enshrined when the party was established almost 40 years ago and that the group has subjected the people in the country into distressful situation.
“Comrade Chairman, the SPLM party, does not longer represent the political ideals for which we joined it in the first place: the idea of fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of our people through taking the towns to the grassroots communities in the form of essential services, the concept of freedom, respect for civil liberties, and the rule of law, adherence to good governance, creation of wealth and prosperity, and equality before the law,” they said in the statement a copy of which was seen by thejubamirror news Desk.
“Furthermore, the SPLM we joined in the 1980s had envisioned a country where all people are treated with dignity and provided equal access to our nation’s abundant opportunities regardless of ethnic background, religious beliefs, political affiliations, and social status. Unfortunately, this has not been the case, as the party leadership abandoned the vision that drove us and millions of other men and women into the movement, the SPLM/A, during the liberation struggle.
“Comrade Chairman, a conscionable member of the SPLM, can no longer afford to look the other way amidst the current distressful situation the country has been subjected to under the stewardship of the SPLM-led government.
“Therefore, in light of the above brief highlights, we, the undersigned revolutionary comrades in the SPLM Chapter in Canada, do at this moment submit this resignation letter from the party, the SPLM, as we can no longer afford to stand by and watch helplessly and hopelessly, the way our country has turned into. It is our firm belief that this resignation absolves us from the mess and historical 10th December 2022 betrayal of our people’s hefty sacrifices to achieve a dream country, South Sudan, which our people would be proud to call home.
“Indeed, we will greatly miss the times we spent with our revolutionary comrades and colleagues in the SPLM party during the most challenging moments; we will continue to treasure the time and challenges we faced together. We will always appreciate the opportunities we have had, serving the SPLM during the past many years. We wish you, Comrade Chairman, and members the SPLM the very best of luck.”
