President Kiir opens Juba- Terekeka, Bahr El Ghazal highway
TEREKEKA,12 December 2022, (Office of the President) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit inspected and launched the completed section of the greater Bahr El Ghazal highway that connects from Juba, Terekeka and Rumbek respectively. The Phase one of the project implemented by Shandong Highspeed cover sixty-three kilometers of tarmac road.
In his opening statement, President Kiir appreciated Shandong Highspeed for completing phase one of the project, saying the road will not only ease the movement of people and goods, but the completion of phase-one is a realization of the SPLM vision of taking town to people.
“Everyone who has worked in this project, please do not relax. Today’s ceremony here in Terekeka is just the beginning of the work. There is a long way to go in achieving our objective of “taking town to people” through road network to ease movement of goods and services between rural and urban areas across the country”. President Kiir said.
” My fellow citizens of Terekeka, the road we are commissioning today belongs to you. With the completion of this phase one, you will be able to move and deliver your goods to and from Juba. it will also open up opportunities for those in settlements along this road to sell their goods and produces”. The President explained.
In his remarks, Ambassador. MA Qing, the Chinese ambassador to South Sudan congratulated President Kiir for being endorsed by unanimous vote as the SPLM flag Bearer for the 2024 general election.
“I would like to avail myself of this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency the President on his being elected by unanimous vote as the SPLM Flag Bearer for the 2024 general election, which reflects his high prestige among the people and the support from the SPLM.” Ma Qiang said.
The Chinese Ambassador also added that the Juba-Rumbek Road Upgrading Project is an important outcome of the meeting between President Kiir and Chinese President Xi Jining during the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation, saying It is a landmark project for the South Sudanese and Government’s policy of giving priority to developing infrastructure.
