JUBA – Civilians in Fangak and Pigi counties are reportedly on the run after a county commissioner confirmed in a public statement that forces belonging to General Johnson Olony are on their way in ferries to attack civilians in the two counties of Jonglei State.
This comes after a senior government official in Malakal town told Sudans Post yesterday that forces belonging to General Johnson Olony Thabo have been given greenlight to cross to Jonglei State from western Nile to attack villages in Fangak and Pigi County.
Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a resident of Phom, the capital of Fangak County, who has left for Bor town in fear of Agwelek attack said that he and his family have fled the area along with hundreds of other residents and are now in Bor town.
“We have come here, my children and my other relatives. We did not come alone, we come alongside other people from Fangak, hundreds of them, and we are here because the Shilluk have been told to attack us,” the civilian who requested not to be named said.
VIOLENCE SPONSORED FROM JUBA
In a statement extended to Sudans Post, the Fangak County Commissioner Boutros Biel said that they have credible information that Agwelek forces are on their way heading toward Pigi and Fangak County and have been allowed safe access through Malakal town and that they being sponsored from Juba.
“I want to inform the general public that Agwelek forces in their badges are on their way from Kodok heading to Pigi and Fangak Counties through Malakal town. They are being sponsored and allowed free access or passage by the government in Malakal and sponsored from Juba,” Biel said.
“Kitgwang forces in Tonja are being sponsored also from Juba to cause violence in Fangak County,” he added.
The senior local government official further warned that such actions undermine the implementation process of the revitalized peace agreement and that the people of Fangak County would use necessary means to defense themselves.
“Such sponsored violence is not acceptable s it is against the peace agreement. The people of Fangak and Pigi shall defend themselves from such organized violence from now onward,” he added.
