On 21st November, 2022, the Government of South Sudan via cabinet affairs minister released a public statement saying that they suspended their participations in the peace talks facilitated by the Sant’Egidio community in Rome, Italy.
They stated that ‘‘While we have been preparing to engage in serious dialogue with Non-Signatory South Sudan Opposition Group to bring lasting peace to our country, it has come to our attention that this Group is using these talks to buy time as they prepare for war.’’ It’s now almost two weeks since they made this worrying allegation
.
However, you have opted to keep silence which indicates your acceptance to the aforementioned allegation. We hereby call on the Non-signatory opposition parties to refrain from violence campaign in South Sudan. It is true that, we cannot be engaging in peaceful dialogue while at the same preparing for war. Thus, you should cease from planning war against the government which is your peace partner while peace talks are being initiated.

port peace talks facilitated by the Sant’Egidio community. On this note, we urge all opposition parties to be sincere and commit to peaceful dialogue so as to reach a quick solution to our national problem
